Thinking globally and acting locally appears to have been adopted as the motto of Kilbeggan Parish Council.
Over recent years the Parish Council has overseen the refurbishment and energy upgrade of older, existing premises followed by the development of a dedicated, new Parish Centre designed to cater for a wide range of activities, ages and social groups.
The new centre has evolved into a key focal point for the wider community in the Westmeath town, hosting community celebrations, events for older people and welcome services for newly-arrived immigrants.
Following that success, the Parish Council’s attention turned to Kilbeggan’s main church, a structure that is now almost five decades old and which was built at a time when environmental concerns were not a major priority.
Planning permission was duly granted for a deep retrofit of the church and strong support for the project was also forthcoming from diocesan authorities. The Parish Council also sought funding from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland's
Better Energy Communities initiative.
The retrofit and refurbishment of the church was seen locally as a key part of the ongoing energy upgrade and development work undertaken by the Parish Council over the last decade. The Kilbeggan community rowed in behind the project with phenomenal support for fundraising initiatives.
The Parish Council looked to Clann Credo as its finance partner because of a shared ethos in delivering social and environmental gains for the community. Clann Credo were delighted to support this flagship sustainability project which gave the church a new welcoming look and a warmer interior for parishioners.
