Philanthropy Ireland has announced that Jeff Raikes, Chief Executive of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will be delivering the 5th Annual Ray Murphy Lecture at Queen's University, Belfast on 5 June.
This year’s lecture is timed to coincide with the start of the European Foundation Centre’s annual Conference which is also taking place in Belfast and which this year is entitled Peace through social justice a role for foundations?
Jeff Raikes, chief executive officer, of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation leads the foundation’s efforts to promote equity for all people around the world. He sets strategic priorities, monitors results, and facilitates relationships with key partners for all three of their program groups.
Ray Murphy (1952 – 2007) was a pioneer of Irish philanthropy and social finance. Through his work with the Atlantic Philanthropies and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, he worked in Ireland and throughout the world supporting organisations working with disadvantaged and vulnerable people. He was also a founding member and Chairman of Clann Credo-Social Investment Fund.
