2025 Impact at a Glance

Where our projects help shape communities

Our impact is reflected in the organisations we support, the communities reached by our lending and the projects made possible through access to responsible finance. The figures below provide a snapshot of Clann Credo’s lending activity and reach in 2025.

Pobal HP Deprivation Index

The Pobal HP Deprivation Index* helps us understand the relative levels of affluence and disadvantage in the communities where we lend. It provides an important lens for assessing the reach of our lending and its contribution to communities experiencing disadvantage. Our confidence in local communities to deliver sustainable solutions to disadvantage, and to harness opportunity, is reflected in the scale of our longer-term lending (term loans of 2–15 years) to communities with below-average scores on the Pobal HP Deprivation Index.

The Index measures the relative affluence or disadvantage of every area in Ireland against a national average score of zero, so a below-average (negative) score indicates that a community experiences greater disadvantage than the country as a whole

Bar chart: 65% of Clann Credo term lending is in communities with a below-average Pobal HP Deprivation Index score. Extremely disadvantaged 1%, very disadvantaged 2%, disadvantaged 15%, marginally below average 47%, marginally above average 32%, affluent 3%, very and extremely affluent 0%.

Impact Lending Across Seven Community and Voluntary Areas of Activity

Clann Credo is Ireland’s social finance lender, providing fair, flexible loans to community groups, voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises. Our lending spans seven areas of community life, led by Sports & Recreation (€26.8M, 44%) and Community Facilities (€15.33M, 25%), which together make up almost 70% of our portfolio. The remainder supports social and sheltered housing, healthcare, enterprise centres, and Family Resource Centres and Local Development Companies. Each loan funds a project shaped by local people and driven by volunteers, delivering real social, cultural and economic benefit where it is needed most.

New Customers

Clann Credo welcomed 523 new customers between 2022 and 2025, with a record 190 in 2025 alone. That is a 68% increase on 2024 and almost double the 105 new customers we supported in 2022, making last year our strongest yet for reaching new organisations. More than a third of all new customers in the past four years joined in 2025, showing that awareness of social finance is spreading to communities that have not borrowed from us before. Each new customer represents a group taking its first step with Clann Credo, broadening our reach across Ireland and bringing community-led finance to more people, places and projects.

Loan Book Growth

Our loan book reached over €61 million in 2025, up 14.85% in a single year. After dipping to around €17 million in 2016, it has grown every year since, more than tripling in nine consecutive years of growth. That climb is driven by demand: more communities are taking on ambitious projects and turning to finance designed around their needs, where mainstream lenders often fall short. Steady growth also means greater capacity, allowing Clann Credo to back more communities, support larger projects and keep pace with what Irish communities want to build next.

Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)** are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Clann Credo’s work is focused on contributing to SDG 7 ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’, SDG 8 ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’, SDG 11 ‘Sustainable Communities and Cities’ and SDG 13 ‘Climate Change’ at local level.

*The Pobal HP Deprivation Index (Haase-Pratschke) measures relative affluence and disadvantage across small areas in Ireland, based on demographic, social class, and labour market indicators. The current index is based on Census 2022 data.
